Calvin Klein Collection
Spring/ Summer 2013
This collection consists of unique silhouettes made up from geometric shapes. The shapes these selfs are very similar to the gothic/medieval architecture photographs that first inspired my final collection.
This garment has a sexual, sophisticated appeal, the shoulder straps curve around the body and across symmetrical circles enthusing the cleavage area. coming in at the waist the dress then puffs out giving an hour glass shape. Texture is added through various materials such as leather and sheer, it is interesting to see how leather can be used through out a Spring/Summer collection by collaborating it with a sheer fabric makes it less harsh and subtle. A fine white line curves around the hem of the leather creating a moiré effect.
Delicate layering is used here adding a key feature to the garment, the netted texture resembles wired fence as it looks fragile yet is actually quite structured and strong. Through using the same colour scheme detailing is defined through construction and texture. The garment is constructed through panels in order to get a fitted silhouette, this also creates an interesting pattern through using various construction techniques.
Once again construction has been used to create a pattern, using curved panels and layers in various fabrics to selectively highlight particular areas. The symmetrical arched panels resemble the windows of cathedrals it is interesting to see how architecture can influence a garments shape. The silhouette of this garment is very classic and in per-portion I would like to take influence from gothic architecture and experiment with it through construction being slighting more creative with it and adding a unique twist, similar to how All Saints garments are more dramatic with the construction of there clothing.
This garment out of the collection is my personal favorite as it reminds me of iron bars, similar to one of the above garments it is used as a casing which over layers the fabric behind. It looks fragile and fine yet it is a strong structured material. The contrast of the two materials almost make it look three dimensional as it intertwines with one another, as well as the black and white creating a strong contrast. As the fabric and material are quite the harsh the silhouette balances it out using a classic shape dress. I would particularly like to try and create a similar effect through using various dyeing techniques.
